31 Days of Doing Things That Scare You

September 26, 2013 By andrea

In the month of October, we’re participating in the annual 31 days phenom created several years ago over at Nesting Place. It’s all about posting on one topic or theme for the entire month of October.

We’re going to write all month about doing things that scare you. Not necessarily stupid things that scare you, like stepping out into traffic or sleeping with your pet boa constrictor. Trust me, those are healthy fears.

Instead, we’re going to spend the month of October focusing on doing things that help you to stretch and grow and get outside your comfort zone, even if they’re scary. We’re going to push you and push ourselves to change in ways that will encourage each of us to live a fuller, more joyful, and more wonderful life.

What spurred our month of awesome (and perhaps scary) growth was this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, who inspired us to greatness with these words…

Do one thing every day that scares you. ~Eleanor Roosevelt

So that’s what we’re going to do. Something that scares us every day. And in the month of October we’re going to write about it. And we’re going to ask you what you’re doing that scares you too, so start thinking about what scares you and what you’re going to do to break through your fears and live a little bit larger!

Good for you. One of my all time favorite quotes is also from dear Eleanor:

You must do the things you think you cannot do.

Great topic. I used that quote when I started my Etsy shop BlessingandLight almost a year ago. I wrote a blog post about it and I loved the freedom that it seemed to bring me once I realized it was “scary”. Because once it was “scary”, it just became something I had to do. Blessings to you on this next 31 days. I have a series as well and I will check back on your posts:)

Love this! I’m doing something similar with creative adventures everyday. I hope I do some that scare me :). Glad I found your blog!

Most of my growth happens way outside my comfort zone. I have joined up for this 31 day craze and it scares me, I am new to blogging and feel way out of my depth. This is a great reminder of the reason I signed up. See you along the way.

I’m excited and scared too. I guess that’s the point. Good luck.

Karen, you’re so right about growth happening outside our comfort zones! But eventually our comfort zones stretch and grow along with us! Thanks for stopping by!

Bonnie, I think most of us are uncomfortable being scared. But as we start trying more and more things outside our comfort zones, it becomes second nature!
